The Sand Hills Lighthouse, built in 1917 to house three
lightkeepers and their families, is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula at 5 Mile
Point on a setting of 35 acres and a half mile of Lake Superior shoreline. The
yellow brick structure is designed in Italian Renaissance style. After many
years of major renovation, it has been transformed into a magnificent smoke free
bed and breakfast inn which is decorated in Victorian style with antiques and
artwork in abundance. Guests are treated to sumptuous gourmet breakfasts
prepared by Bill, the innkeeper. Delicious homemade pastries and coffee are
offered each evening.
